CHEMICAL SYNTHESIS
OUR PATHWAY TOWARDS BIO-BASED BUILDING BLOCKS
One of ChemStream’s main pillars is the development and synthesis of new stabilizing products, such as dispersants and emulsifiers, based on a broad in-house knowledge concerning different developmental tools such as “Hansen solubility space” and organic chemistry.
During the development of the above mentioned products, a strong focus is put on green and environmental friendly chemistry and/or products. ChemStream is involved in several research projects regarding the use of bio-molecules -such as chitin, chitosan and lignin- in said development, combining new materials and in-house knowledge of organic synthesis. This can be accomplished either through:
Chemical synthesis, using organic chemistry processes
Enzymatic synthesis, using the robust character as well as the versatility of enzymes in synthesis, together with enhancing the green character of the end-material.

DISPERSIONS
WHATEVER SOLID MATERIAL YOU HAVE, WE CAN DISPERSE IT IN THE LIQUID OF YOUR CHOICE
Our unique approach is based on the chemical and physical analysis of the solid interfaces and characterisation of the physicochemical properties of the liquid. Molecular modelling and Hansen solubility parameters (HSP) in combination with smart analytical tools are the key. Modification of the interface chemistry will provide unique properties.
Technology together with interface science can tailor the dispersed phase diameters from a coarse dispersion (suspension) over a colloidal dispersion with particle sizes well below 1 micrometer to even nanodispersions. Our “smart throughput screening” methodology ensures an optimal output/input balance.
We have a high performance collection of commercially available dispersing agents for all types of materials and for liquid dispersing phases ranging from apolar oils, over solvents (including UV-curable monomers) to water based applications. Furthermore, we can synthesise tailor made dispersing agents giving you the competitive edge for your application.

COATINGS
CUSTOMIZED COATINGS ON DEMAND ... TO REDUCE YOUR ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND YOUR WASTE PRODUCTION
Our coating design is based on a well considered approach where we link the optimized end user requirements to a sustainable manufacturing process. Because we are aware that cost is the economic driver, we use our ‘smart’ throughput screening to optimize also in that sense the chemical formulations. We provide our customers with prototype formulations (25-50 L scale) to perform their own in house production and application tests. Depending on the application we can provide you with water based or curable (= UV-light, UV-LED, electron beam) coatings.
UV-Curable coatings are based on the cross linking of monomers (chain reaction initiated by UV irradiation). Therefore they are instant dry, produce no waste and have a low energy consumption. By choosing the right (multi functional) monomers - combined with dedicated linker polymers - and by choosing the appropriate photoinitiators, we are able to translate your specific end user requirements into a chemical coating formulation, which can be applied in high speed coating lines.

INKJET INKS
TAILOR MADE WATER BASED, MILD SOLVENT AND CURABLE INKJET INKS FOR INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS
Our inkjet inks reach the highest quality standard level for zero defect performance for industrial applications. Based on an advanced carrier design and on our high performance dispersions, our inks have a long shelf life and they can be used without any problem in high resolution mode.
Depending on the application we can provide you with water based, oil based, mild solvent (= low volatile carrier) or curable (= UV-light, UV-LED, electron beam) inkjet inks. We can perform in house jetting and printing tests to finalize the ink formulation to your specific process conditions, like throughput, cure speed, curing system, pin curing, multi pass, single pass…We work in close relationship with system integrators and head manufacturers to optimize the ink / head interaction. We can provide inks for the most common industrial drop on demand piezo print heads: Xaar, Toshiba Tec, Konica Minolta, Dimatix, Kyocera, …

CUSTOMIZED PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
OUR APPROACH TOWARDS YOUR FINAL REQUIREMENTS
Customized product development stands for a tailor made approach. Our team translates your dedicated requirements into specific chemical formulations or new building blocks, considering your process conditions.
Our chemical formulations are based on in-depth screening of the commercially available raw materials with respect to the technical specifications. In case there is a need for modified or new raw materials, we can do the in-house synthesis, based on a molecular modelling approach.
We can test and evaluate new formulations against the technical specifications in our lab, but our team can assist you to implement the new formulation in your own adapted workflow or new application. Therefore, we provide you with prototype samples from ml to 100 L scale, for in-house testing.

INNOVATIVE CONTRACT RESEARCH
OUR BRIDGE BETWEEN CHEMISTRY AND TECHNOLOGY
Innovative contract research stands for experienced project management in a business-to-business collaboration and stands for a consolidated transfer of know how and technology during the implementation process.
In close cooperation with our customer, we come to a detailed project plan and budget. We use mainly two business models:
-
100 % research cost at the expense of the customer
-
Royalty based model: shared risk and shared research cost.
In case of insufficient resources or competences, we have the capability to initiate and to coach the process for a possible funding.
We work on a confidential partnership basis that guarantees the transfer of rights on project outcome and intellectual property.
We are involved in several ongoing industrial projects (under non-disclosure agreement), where technological changes and improvements or new product development must lead to energy efficiency, waste reduction and recyclability.
